Our story began at Laurels Farm, where our family first crafted traditional cheeses from local milk. Over a century ago, Joseph Heler’s grandmother made one whole Cheshire cheese every day in the farmhouse kitchen.

This craftsmanship was passed down through the generations to Joseph himself, who in 1957, founded his own cheesemaking company. But we’ve inherited more than just recipes. Cheese may be in our blood, but it’s innovation that runs through our veins. tradition is something we build on.

OUR HISTORY

Joseph began by making unpasteurised Cheshire cheese. Never one to settle for ‘good enough,’ his dedication was soon recognised, and by 1960, the company had won eight national cheese championships.

But Joseph didn’t play it safe; he could see the industry was moving fast and standing still wasn’t an option. He began crafting new varieties like Red Leicester and Double Gloucester and expanded beyond Cheshire to reach customers across Great Britain.

Heler Foods remains a proudly independent, family business. Guided by Mike and George, the son and grandson of Joseph Heler.

From our roots as a small farmhouse dairy,our business has grown in size, expertise and capability.

We’re a forward-thinking, innovative company with a clear purpose: to give our customers the confidence to change and shape the industry. But what will never change are our values and respect for tradition.

We still make all our cheese by hand, on open tables, using only the finest local milk from specially selected dairy farms.
